Cataractive3 frequently asked questions

What is CatarActive3®?

CatarActive3® is a compounded eye drop comprised of moxifloxacin (fluroquinolone antibiotic), bromfenac (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory) and dexamethasone (steroid). We also compound CatarActive2 which is a combination of moxifloxacin and dexamethasone and BromDex, a combination of bromfenac and dexamethasone. Your ophthalmologist will pick which drop is best for you.

Do I need to shake the bottle?

Nope! CatarActive3®, CatarActive2, Atropine, and BromDex are all solutions. This means that all the ingredients are already distributed equally in the liquid. Shaking is not recommended or required.

Do I need to refrigerate CatarActive3®?

Also no! CatarActive3®, CatarActive2, Atropine, and BromDex are all stable at room temperature – just avoid storing them anywhere extremely hot (like your car in the summertime).

What are the side effects of CatarActive3®?

The most common side effect our patients have reported is a slight sting each time you use the drops. Everyone experiences the sting a little differently, and some patients experience no sting at all, but it’s all normal.

Will the drops cause me to have blurry vision? Will I be able to drive after using them?

Neither CatarActive3®, CatarActive2, Atropine, nor BromDex will cause vision changes. You may experience some blurriness for a few seconds as the drop distributes across your eye (like an artificial tear), but after that you’re good to go! You do not need to alter your activities to use drops.

What if I think I am having an allergic reaction?

If you start to develop a rash or hives around your eye or if your eye starts to swell, stop using the drops and call your surgeon's office. You may also reach out to a pharmacist here at Designer Drugs Pharmacy at 1-888-935-2930.

Do you have an after hours line?

If you have an emergency, there is a pharmacist available after hours. Call 1-888-935-2930 and follow the prompts to speak to a pharmacist. You will be prompted to leave a voicemail, and depending on the severity of your emergency, someone will get back to you as soon as possible.

Do you take insurance?

We are not contracted with insurance providers and therefore cannot bill insurance or a coupon card. We can provide you with an insurance claim form if you would like to seek reimbursement from your insurance company.

What forms of payment do you take?

We accept all major credit cards and most FSA/HSA cards too. If time permits, you are more than welcome to mail us a check or money order.

I did not use my drops, can I return them?

No, unfortunately we cannot accept medication back once it has left the pharmacy. The return of medications is prohibited by Federal Law.

I am currently on other eye drops. Do I need to stop them before I start CatarActive3®?

Depending on your current medication(s), your ophthalmologist may have you continue your drops. It is best to space out the drops at least 10-15 minutes in between each drop to ensure adequate absorption. A natural tear or lubricating eye drop is recommended to use 10-15 minutes before your CatarActive3® dose if your eyes are dry.
